Elephant Reintegration Trust

Founded in 2017, the Elephant Reintegration Trust (ERT) is a South African non-profit committed to helping captive elephants return to the wild. The organisation works to reintegrate elephants from captive backgrounds into wild systems where they can live with dignity, autonomy, and the social and spatial freedom they need to thrive, while also providing support for those who require rehabilitation and recovery from the effects of captivity. Through rewilding, translocation, research, collaring, and consulting, ERT seeks to address the welfare and management challenges facing both captive and wild elephants and promote informed, ethical elephant management.
